Special education is a specially designed instruction, support and service meeting the requirements of children with special needs i.e. children whose overall development in terms of physical and cognitive skills has been delayed and has placed them behind their peer groups. A traditional classroom environment does not suffice to cater to the requirements of children with special needs and hence the need of special education arises.
At BrahmaShakti Special School, special education is available for every child, depending upon their individual needs. Special educators focus on the overall development of every child attending school. Every child is evaluated at the time of admission under the special education process, and a separate file is maintained for each of them. This evaluation includes assessment of the child in all areas related to the suspected disability. The evaluation result thus is used to decide the appropriate educational program and related services and decisions as per the child’s needs.
All activities within the day programme works towards goals set out in each child’s Individualized Education Programme (IEP). Activities are designed to focus on communication goals – verbal/ non-verbal, social skills, motor skills, behaviour goals, at levels appropriate for each child.

Early intervention entails providing services to the special child at the earliest in his/her developmental stage. This early intervention is necessary because it is during these first five years that a child learns and develops at the fastest rate. At the age of three, the child becomes eligible for educational services. The goal is to help the child achieve the highest possible functionality and ease of interaction, both at home and in the community.
Educational Services and therapies in cases of early intervention is based on Psychological Assessment of the child which is done at the time of admission of the child.
