Economic security is the ability of individuals, households or communities to cover their essential needs sustainably and with dignity. Ekta Shakti Foundation under its Life-Skills Program conceptualized this vocational training program in the year 2006. The initiative of Radhika Skill Development Centre became functional in the year 2007 in Matiala, Delhi, to challenge the socio-economic inequalities of the region and enable women and girls to walk towards a goal of self-reliance.
The primary objective of the Radhika Skill Development Centre was to create employment opportunities for disadvantaged adolescent girls and women, especially women widowed at an early age, who saw no support in society. The program offers certificate courses in cutting, tailoring, sewing and embroidery for employability and better opportunities.
Beneficiaries are selected through the outreach program by the team. Families in need are identified during field visits, enquiring with the local community and via direct requests. The Certificate Course offered is of six months and 12 months based on the need and requirement of the candidate. Batches of 30-40 girls & women are trained in two sessions carried out as per course duration selected. The organization liaisons with local boutiques, small scale setups and training institutes to strengthen placement opportunities for the trained women and girls.

I am Lusee Kumari. I belong to Chakia, a rural area in Begusarai district,
Bihar. My father died when I was very young and my mother was the only
bread winner of our family. Though we are economically backward, my
mother ensured that I get my basic education. After completing my
schooling, my family’s financial condition didn’t allow me to study further.
Through our family friend I came to know about Ekta Shakti Skill Center
which offered various free of cost courses for people from rural and poor
background like me. I chose the Retail Sales training which equipped me in
various skills of sales like billing, selling techniques, customer satisfaction
etc. Post training and assessment, I received certificate from PMKVY under
National Skill Development Corporation and the team is helping me in
placement as well.
The skill training I received from Ekta Shakti Foundation has transformed
me from being a shy and timid girl to a person who is ready to support my
family and face the world with confidence.
